History of Parcels

Preservation Ranch's 160 individual parcels have a long history.  From 1876 to 1940 the Property was comprised primarily of separate homesteader claims.  The land was used for orchards, cattle and sheep grazing and limited timber harvesting.  Beginning in 1940, timber companies slowly aggregated parcel ownership and land use was converted strictly to timber production.

  • The parcels on the Property were created with no particular regard for topography or other natural features.  Boundaries cut across mountains, stream and roads leaving some parcels with no access whatsoever.
  • Parcels were created and conveyed for the convenience of prior owners without the benefit of contemporary land use policies, environmental review or impact mitigation.
  • As a result, the Property is highly fragmented in terms of its resources and its parcel boundaries.
